Metro-atlanta cities

wellbeing initiative

The Metro Atlanta Cities Wellbeing Initiative (MACWI) is an eight-month experience for city leaders to expand their knowledge of wellbeing related topics and use data to inform the development of plans for policy action. MACWI was created by a partnership between the Atlanta Regional Collaborative for Health Improvement (ARCHI), the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and the Athens Wellbeing Project (AWP).

Six metro Atlanta cities are participating in the MACWI with representation from elected officials, city management, fire services, parks and recreation and local business. The first half of the MACWI had a didactic format with subject matter experts sharing about stewardship, social determinants of health, health equity, systems thinking and peer learning. The participants will spend the second half of the MACWI applying learnings to develop policy action plans based on the CDC’s policy process.

The participants used a MACWI-developed wellbeing glossary and metric factsheets to create their policy action plans. The MACWI provides an example of the opportunity to build the capacity of city-level leaders to use data to impact community-wide wellbeing. The initiative also highlights the increased leverage of engaging a variety of partners for wellbeing efforts.  To learn more about MACWI, use the ‘View Full Report’ Button.
